We provide piano lessons specifically for adults--that's all. But, you know that already just by looking at this web site. How are we different from others who also deliver piano lessons?

1. Our cross-disciplinary approach. We know and understand neuroscience, psychology, and piano playing. We are on the forefront of doing what the Society for Neuroscience Summit calls for--we utilize all three sources of information for best outcomes in the piano lesson.
2. The curriculum we use. Curriculum is not just the books one uses. Curriculum is HOW the books are used--it is the structure upon which the material used for learning is constructed. Our curriculum is based on Social Cognitive Theory, Cognitive Neuroscience and Adult Developmental Psychology. We then use the music books--the ones you will play from--within the curriculum we constructed within the science.
3. The true power of an educational endeavor is the framework that makes it possible to develop higher level knowledge. This framework is known as a memory network, and we build, on purpose, a complete and viable memory network for every student. Here are just some examples of what we will place into your memory network:

• Conceptual knowledge of the musical staff
• Conceptual knowledge of rhythmic notation and how to realize it.
• A rich long-term memory of musical excerpts that come up, again and again, in pieces (to enable you to learn the current piece in a shorter time)
• How to form relevant working memory for the piece you are working on (this includes understanding what working memory is and how to use it)
• How to catch one's own error and correct it
• How to manage stress levels, especially muscle tension (muscle tension is prevalent in the arts)
• How to manage muscle tension that is not a result of stress (muscle tension is present for other reasons)
• How to think of the music instead of the notes (get beyond the printed page)
• Learning strategies, memorization strategies
